Celebrating my mom’s recent retirement and their upcoming 25th anniversary, my parents spent three weeks traveling around Thailand and visiting me in my quaint little city of Lampang. Having them here seemed like a crazy clash of worlds, but we kept ourselves busy cooking, eating, exploring and kickin’ it on the white sandy beaches of Phuket.
The adventure began in Chiang Mai, where we shopped around the markets, visited museums, checked out the famous Chedi Luang and Doi Suthep temples, and tried our hand at making some Thai dishes at the Thai Akha Cooking School.
After a quick trip down to see the ancient temples at Angkor Wat in Cambodia, they arrived in Lampang and got a taste of what my life is like there. Having just been to Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Siem Reap, I think they were really grateful for a slower-paced weekend.
But before long, Michael joined us from China and we were off again; headed down to the island of Phuket for a luxurious week at the Renaissance Marriott Hotel on Mai Khao Beach. Relaxing by the pool, boating to nearby islands and bar-hopping at Patong Beach was the perfect way to recoup and prepare for Michael & Hannah’s Grand Adventure.
Early Sunday morning, my parents jetted back to the States, while Michael and I kicked off our Southeast Asian tour–six countries in six weeks! Stay tuned for some history, fun facts and photos along the way!
