Welp, I made it! After three layovers and more than 24 hours, I am here in Chiang Mai, where I will spend a week exploring Buddhist temples and sampling local cuisine with my fellow English teachers before we disperse and settle into our new homes.
At one point during the flight from Toronto to Hong Kong, I peered through the frost that covered the window and realized we were flying over the Arctic. It was difficult to capture in a photo but all you could see for miles was ice. Later, I watched the sun rise over the ocean and marveled as we passed over a mountain range in northern China. The views were absolutely stunning and gave me a taste of some of the diverse landscapes Asia has to offer.
Tomorrow, the excursions begin at 7:30am with a visit to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep and Bhubing Palace. No rest for the jetlagged, I guess, but as my nephews always say, “you can sleep when you’re dead.”
